George Futral purchased the store from C.L. Roberts (who had previously purchased the store from Porter Nalle) in 1944. His father James Futral began working for him at that time. He was a 26 year old husband and father. He married Earline Hudson in July, 1940 and they had two children, Patricia and Larry. He managed the store during the day and delivered feed and supplies during the evening hours. At that time, the store was located on the outskirts of town with much of the feed being delivered to the store by rail car. Many of the feed bags weighed 100 pounds each. Since opening in 1944, much has changed in the city of Fort Myers, but his operating philosophy has remained the same. His philosophy has always been to provide quality animal care products at discount prices with an emphasis on personalized customer service. He retired from the business in 2004 after 60 years of hard-working and faithful service and he passed away in September of 2007. He was 89 years old and will be greatly missed by his family and the community.
